St Andrew’s Runners Raise Over £5,300 at London Landmarks Half Marathon
We are delighted to celebrate the efforts of five outstanding runners who represented St Andrew’s at the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 12 April—one of the capital’s most iconic and inspiring events.
This amazing race showcases some of London’s most famous sites, including Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, The Shard, and the London Eye - every mile encapsulates London's character, majesty and history.
Taking on the challenge for St Andrew’s were an inspiring group from across our community: double GB gold medallist sprinter and personal trainer at St Andrew’s, Julian Thomas; Iman Amin, a former Youth Worker at the Club; Craig Lindsy Smith from our amazing corporate partners Ruffer, and friends of the Club, Laura Lowe and Matthew Shobande.
Thanks to their amazing fundraising efforts and the generosity of everyone that supported them, they raised over £5,300 for St Andrew’s. These vital funds will go directly towards supporting over 400 children and young people who attend the Club each year, helping them access opportunities to stay active, grow in confidence, build friendships and gain life skills to thrive in adulthood.
The runners spoke enthusiastically about their experience:
Friend of the Club Laura said: “Thank you for the opportunity to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon for St Andrew’s Club. It was an amazing event, with a fantastic atmosphere and it’s really rewarding knowing I’ve raised money for such a wonderful charity.”
Julian Thomas, Double GB gold medallist sprinter and personal trainer at St Andrew’s said; "Honestly, it was a total reality check. I’m used to the track where everything is measured, predictable, and—let’s face it—a lot smoother. Taking on 13.1 miles through the city streets was a completely different beast. It forced me way out of my usual comfort zone.
The energy from the crowd was something else, though. You hear people talk about it, but feeling that wall of sound is incredible. But then I hit mile 12, and I'm not going to lie, I hit a massive wall. My legs were basically screaming at me to stop.
What actually got me through those last couple of miles was the 'why' behind the run. I kept thinking about St Andrew’s Youth Club and the kids there. I’ve seen firsthand how much of a lifeline that club is for them, providing a space to grow and stay on the right track. When you’re running for something bigger than yourself, you find this extra gear you didn't know you had. The cheers from the sidelines and the mission of the club definitely carried me across that finish line."
Thank you so much to all our amazing runners and everyone who donated to their fundraising campaigns. We continue to be humbled by the incredible support of our community.
