Presentation Evening

18 Aug 2020

St Andrew’s Club's long-standing annual Presentation Evening looked slightly different this year.

Due to Covid-19 social distancing and the fact that the Club had been physically closed for much of this year, Youth Club Manager, Sarah and her Deputy, Adrian, who usually give out over twenty awards, this year decided to make just four important awards to members who had shown outstanding commitment both before and during lockdown. This scaled down mini Presentation Night was held on 14 August, the last day of the four week Summer Project.

Families of those receiving awards were invited in advance and a barbeque was prepared by Adrian.

Yusra - Intermediate member of the year

Yusra hasn’t been a member of the Club for long but the impact she has had on Club life would make you think otherwise. She started attending the girls’ boxing sessions and after a few months began bringing her younger sisters and friends with her to involve them in other activities at the Club. She encourages the rest of the boxing group and has managed to keep the girls motivated during Covid restrictions to continue attending regular outdoor fitness sessions.

Mollie - Club Girl of the year

Mollie is a long standing member of the Club who has recently made the move into volunteering. She is the girl we call to rally the troops and encourage others to get involved. Staff can always rely on her to help out if needed and she will always do what she says she's going to. We hope this award marks the continuation of a long journey with St Andrew's Club.

William - Club Boy of the year

William is another long standing member of the Club who is following in his sisters’ footsteps and is now volunteering. The staff have been proud to watch him grow in confidence over the last year. He provides great support to both the staff and young people who are part of the kit electric car project and is a fantastic role model to have at the Club.

Edson – Staff member of the year

And for the first time in as long as anyone can remember, an award was made to a member of staff who has gone above and beyond their regular youth work. Edson Rabole was awarded this trophy for his incredible amount of hard work and dedication this year: during lockdown, his frequent voluntary outreach, running the Junior Club Summer Project and taking over the Club’s football duties as Head of Football from September.

The awards were presented by CEO Annette, who paid tribute to the amazing team of staff at St Andrew’s Club, led by Sarah who truly deserves the title of ‘SW1 Community Mum’ for her commitment and dedication to her local community. Despite all the challenges facing the Club, the team managed to open for 4 weeks of fun, friendship and enrichment.
