President's Reception 2017

10 Nov 2017

This President’s Reception was held in the run up to the close of our 150th anniversary year and Lord Selborne, President, updated guests on St Andrew’s Club’s successes over the last year.

Highlights included our partnership with the charity Snow-Camp which introduces inner-city young people to careers in the snow-sports industry; topical workshops, including a series helping young people to question the role of gangs and radicalisation in their lives, and teaching members new skills such as how to build a kit electric car, through a fantastic partnership with the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturing & Traders).

Chris, a former member and now running his own successful sports and fitness business told guests how: “It all started from a youth club I attended to stay out of trouble. The skills I learnt here have set me up. You can’t buy that stuff.”

The Right Worshipful The Lord Mayor of Westminster Councillor Ian Adams endorsed this by saying: “St Andrew’s Club has created an amazing legacy. I am passionate about social mobility and organisations like this Club with its stellar reputation across Westminster are highly regarded.”

Lord Selborne flagged up some forthcoming highlights:

  • 150th Anniversary Dinner, Dance and Auction, which is sold out. Some incredible lots have been donated to help us raise valuable funds. You can bid on them even if you are not attending: www.sacauction2017.co.uk.
  • the Big Give Christmas Challenge, where gifts donated will be matched, for our project: “Thursday nights – more than a youth club”. Click here to find out how to get involved with this 7-day on-line donation challenge. All gifts will be warmly welcomed.

Guests were served drinks and canapés by Club members, who did a wonderful job. Former members and staff joined the occasion.

Thank you to everyone who came and to Todd Whittle for taking the photographs.
